Break in Motion

A macOS app to help you actually use your standing desk — and feel better while working.

🪑 The Problem

Like many people, I have a standing desk.
But I wasn’t really using it.

I'd sit down, get focused, and hours would pass before I even noticed. That habit started taking a toll — back pain, stiffness, and that sluggish end-of-day fatigue most of us know too well.

I didn’t want to use a Pomodoro timer — they’re too rigid and often interrupt more than help.
What I really wanted was something:

  • Subtle
  • Consistent
  • And built around real habit formation, not just timers

💡 The Solution

So I built Break in Motion — a lightweight Mac app that helps you build better standing habits during the workday.

It runs quietly in your menu bar, gently reminding you to stand, move, and breathe — without being annoying or breaking your flow.

The best part? It adapts to your progress. As you build consistency, it increases your standing time gradually, like a leveling system for your posture.

✨ Key Features

  • 🧠 Gentle reminders, not Pomodoro interruptions
  • Progressive standing time — increases over time based on your streak
  • 🔥 Daily goals & streak tracking
  • 🎯 Minimal interface that lives in the menu bar
  • 🎉 Achievements to help keep you motivated

🚀 Why I Built It

This was a nights-and-weekends project — something I made for myself because I needed it.
When I shared it with some friends, they found it useful too. That’s when I decided to release it publicly.

I’ve learned a ton in the process, and I’m excited to keep improving it.
